Energy balance

The same diet-mimicking intervention significantly reduces body weight, BMI, waist circumference, and blood pressure compared to a self-prepared food exchange system diet in patients with BMI ≥ 23 kg/m2.

If you have type 2 diabetes and a BMI over 23, adopting a culturally adapted Mediterranean/DASH-style diet can help you lose weight and lower blood pressure. The study showed that providing ready meals helped participants achieve these results without needing to count calories manually, as the calories were pre-calculated based on their ideal body weight.

GoodSupportsHIGH confidence
Reductions in bodyweight (-1.70 – 2.07 in group A vs 0.27 – 1.13 in group C, P < 0.001), BMI (-0.68 – 0.90 in group A vs 0.00 – 0.48 in group C, P = 0.010)... and blood pressure... were greater in group A than in group C.
