GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) significantly reduce hepatic steatosis and improve metabolic markers in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), but they do not significantly improve liver fibrosis.

GLP-1 medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide are effective at reducing liver fat and improving metabolic health in people with fatty liver disease. However, they do not currently appear to reverse liver scarring (fibrosis). While they offer significant benefits for steatosis and weight loss, patients should be aware of common gastrointestinal side effects and the current limitation regarding fibrosis reversal.
