Adherence
Intensive lifestyle intervention reduces the incidence of major cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes who do NOT have a baseline history of cardiovascular disease.
For people with type 2 diabetes but no prior heart disease, intensive lifestyle changes aiming for weight loss and regular exercise may lower the risk of heart events, although the evidence is not statistically definitive. The trend suggests a benefit.
ModerateQualifiesMEDIUM confidence
In contrast, among participants without CVD at baseline, the ILI group had a nonsignificantly lower incidence of the primary outcome (1.23%/y vs. 1.41%/y, respectively; HR 0.86 [95% CI: 0.72-1.02]).
Why this rating
Post-hoc analysis; interaction was suggestive (P=0.063) but not statistically significant.
