Intensive lifestyle intervention reduces total mortality and cardiovascular mortality in type 2 diabetes patients, with hazard ratios similar to those seen with SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 agonists, although these reductions did not reach statistical significance in the Look AHEAD trial.
Lifestyle changes may help you live longer, even if the study didn't prove it statistically. The trend (21% lower risk of death) is similar to what powerful diabetes drugs achieve. Don't let the 'non-significant' label stop you from pursuing lifestyle changes for longevity.

Although none of the trials showed a reduction in nonfatal MI, reductions in total mortality were achieved in both EMPA-REG (hazard ratio [HR], 0.68; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.57–0.82; P<0.001) and LEADER (HR, 0.85; 95% CI, 0.74–0.97; P=0.02), with a similar reduction observed in Look AHEAD (HR, 0.85; 95% CI, 0.69–1.04; P=0.11) that did not achieve statistical significance.
