A comprehensive 48-week lifestyle modification program (diet, exercise, behavioral counseling) produces clinically significant weight loss (≥5%) and improved glycemic control (HbA1c reduction) in patients with type 2 diabetes and obesity, significantly outperforming standard treatment alone.
If you have Type 2 Diabetes and are overweight, standard medical care alone is unlikely to produce significant weight loss. A structured 48-week program combining a moderate caloric deficit (500-1000 kcal/day), 40-60 minutes of daily physical activity (mix of cardio, strength, and flexibility), and regular behavioral counseling can help you lose at least 5% of your body weight and improve your blood sugar control. This approach is significantly more effective than routine care alone.
At Week 48, the mean reduction in body weight was 5.8%... and 1.2%... in the ILM and ST group, respectively. At Week 48, a weight loss of ≥5% was achieved by 50% of patients in the ILM group versus 13.3% in the ST group (p = 0.002).
Why this rating
Non-randomized, open-label, parallel-group study with a relatively small sample size (N=130) and potential selection bias.
