Energy balance
Significant improvements in metabolic parameters (lipid profile, blood pressure, fasting glucose) are achieved primarily in subjects with lower initial excess weight (overweight or Class I obesity) and those who lose ≥5% of their initial body weight.
If you are overweight or have Class I obesity, a lifestyle program is likely to improve your blood pressure and lipids. If you have Class II or III obesity, standard lifestyle changes may not significantly improve metabolic markers, and you might need more intensive support or medical intervention. Losing 5% of your body weight is a key threshold for seeing glucose improvements.
There were significant improvements in lipid levels and blood pressure among participants with lower initial excess weight. A reduction in fasting blood glucose was observed only among subjects who lost ≥ 5% of their initial weight.
Why this rating
Subgroup analysis within an observational study; data completeness for metabolic markers was lower than for anthropometrics.
