Energy balance

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) achieves 16-20% total weight loss at 12 months and improves metabolic markers without worsening GERD.

ESG is a minimally invasive procedure that reduces stomach size by 70-80% using sutures. It achieves 16-20% weight loss at one year and improves blood pressure and diabetes markers. Unlike some surgeries, it does not typically worsen acid reflux. It is suitable for those with a BMI of 30-50 who want a less invasive option than traditional surgery.

GoodSupportsHIGH confidence
Current evidence shows total weight loss effectiveness between 16% and 20% at 12 months, along with statistically significant reductions in blood pressure, waist circumference, triglycerides, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels, and hepatic steatosis index... it does not induce de novo gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) symptoms nor worsen existing GERD
