High-protein diets promote satiety and may facilitate short-term weight loss, but their effectiveness for long-term weight maintenance is unclear.
Include adequate protein in your diet to help you feel full, especially in the short term. However, do not rely on high-protein diets as a magic bullet for long-term weight loss, as the evidence for their long-term effectiveness is currently unclear.
ModerateQualifiesMEDIUM confidence
Researchers often refer to a hierarchy of satiety for macronutrients with protein being the most satiating and fat the least satiating, joule for joule... Some studies suggest that high-protein diets may be effective in producing short-term decreases in food intake... but whether or not these diets are helpful in long-term weight maintenance or in prevention of weight gain is not clear.
Why this rating
The paper states data is 'incomplete' and effectiveness for long-term maintenance is 'not clear'.
