Older women fail to recover whole-muscle isometric strength after resuming normal activity following a period of combined energy restriction and step reduction, whereas older men fully recover their baseline strength.

If you are an older woman recovering from a period of reduced activity or illness, be aware that your maximum strength might not bounce back as quickly as a man's, even if you return to normal activity. You may need to focus on gradual strength retraining rather than just resuming normal daily activities to regain lost muscle function.
