In patients newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, recent weight gain (within one year prior to diagnosis) predicts subsequent weight loss after diagnosis, whereas long-term historical weight history (weight at age 20 or changes 10 years prior) does not predict post-diagnosis weight changes.
If you have recently gained weight leading up to a type 2 diabetes diagnosis, you are statistically likely to lose weight after diagnosis compared to those who were stable or losing weight. However, your weight at age 20 or your weight trends from 10 years ago do not predict your post-diagnosis weight. Focus on your current trajectory and recent changes rather than your distant history.
Each kg of weight gain during the year preceding the diagnosis was associated with a weight change (95% CI) of -0.20 (-0.28; -0.13) kg during the follow up period... the weight at age 20... and the weight change from 10 years to 1 year before diagnosis... did not predict weight change after diagnosis.
