The association between metabolic syndrome status changes and atrial fibrillation risk is significantly stronger in younger (20-39 years) and middle-aged (40-64 years) populations compared to the elderly (≥65 years).
If you are under 65, managing your metabolic health (weight, blood pressure, blood sugar) is even more critical for preventing atrial fibrillation than it is for those over 65. The risk of AF from metabolic syndrome is much higher in younger and middle-aged adults. Preventing metabolic syndrome early in life offers the greatest protection against AF.
The risk of AF was strongly correlated with MetS status changes in the young and middle- age groups (20– 39 years and 40– 64 years, respectively) than in the elderly group (≥65 years).
