Adipocyte and preadipocyte formation rates in subcutaneous abdominal fat positively correlate with overall percent body fat in women.

As women gain more body fat, their abdominal fat cells tend to turn over and expand more actively. This suggests that higher body fat levels drive increased cellular activity in the belly area, which may contribute to the metabolic risks associated with abdominal obesity.
