Saturated fatty acids (SFA) promote greater long-term weight gain compared to unsaturated fatty acids (MUFA/PUFA) primarily due to lower diet-induced thermogenesis (DIT) and reduced energy expenditure, despite potentially stimulating appetite-regulating hormones like CCK and PYY more strongly.

Focus on the quality of fat rather than just eliminating it. Replacing saturated fats (found in butter, fatty meats) with unsaturated fats (olive oil, nuts, fish) may support weight control by boosting your body's energy expenditure, even if total calories remain similar.
