The D2O stable isotopic tracer methodology allows for the assessment of muscle protein synthesis (MPS) over extended periods (days to weeks) in free-living settings, overcoming the limitations of short-term infusion methods.

Current research methods are evolving to better understand how muscle protein synthesis works over days and weeks, not just hours. This helps us see how consistent training and nutrition actually build muscle over time, rather than just looking at immediate spikes.
