Higher rates of in vivo adipose triglyceride (TG) synthesis and de novo lipogenesis (DNL) are negatively correlated with body weight loss in women with obesity.
You might think that if your body is good at making new fat (de novo lipogenesis), it would be harder to lose weight. However, this study found the opposite: women who lost more weight actually had higher rates of fat synthesis and turnover in their fat tissue. This suggests that a dynamic, active fat metabolism might be helpful for weight loss, rather than a slow, stagnant one. It highlights that fat turnover is complex and not just about 'making fat'.
fTG was negatively associated with 8 week body weight in both scABD (P = 0.01) and scFEM (trend; P = 0.11) adipose depots.
