Weight loss of 7-10% of body weight improves the majority of histopathological features of NASH, including fibrosis, achieved through a daily calorie reduction of 500-1000 kcal combined with moderate-intensity exercise.
To improve liver health in NASH, aim to lose 7-10% of your body weight. This is best achieved by eating 500-1000 fewer calories per day and exercising moderately for 150 minutes a week. Even a 3-5% loss helps with liver fat, but the higher target is needed to reverse fibrosis.
Weight loss of at least 3%-5% of body weight improves steatosis and 7%-10% improves the majority of the histopathological features of NASH, including fibrosis85,103.
