Energy balance
Time-restricted eating (TRE) without calorie restriction significantly reduces body weight, BMI, and whole-body fat mass in adults.
Adopt a 16:8 eating window (e.g., 12pm-8pm) for daily food intake. Do not restrict calories intentionally; simply stop eating after your chosen window. Expect modest weight loss (~1.6kg) and fat reduction over time, especially if you have metabolic risk factors.
ModerateSupportsMEDIUM confidence
Participants who followed TRE demonstrated reduction in body weight [mean-MD: −1.622 kg, (95% confidence interval (CI −2.302 to −0.941)], body mass index (BMI) [MD: −0.919 kg/m2 (95% CI: −1.189 to −0.650)]... and whole-body fat mass (WBFM) [MD: −0.662 kg (95% CI: −0.795 to −0.530)].
Why this rating
Meta-analysis of 26 studies, but high heterogeneity (I2 > 80%) and moderate risk of bias.
