SGLT2 inhibitors like Dapagliflozin are a newer class of diabetes medication that work by removing excess sugar through urine. This process helps lower blood sugar, blood pressure, and body weight. While effective, they carry a risk of genital infections and potentially breast or bladder cancer, requiring monitoring.
Sodium glucose co-transporter type 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are a new class of glucose-lowering agents which prevent the reabsorption of renal-filtered glucose back into the circulation [123] and increase urinary glucose elimination, thus lowering blood glucose levels [124]. They have been shown to be effective in reducing HbA1c, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), systolic blood pressure, [125]. bodyweight, as well as hyperglycaemia [125].
