Salicylate (the active metabolite of aspirin and salsalate) activates AMPK directly by binding to the beta-1 subunit, independent of AMP/ADP levels, and improves metabolic parameters in subjects with insulin resistance.
Salsalate, a form of salicylate, has been shown in short-term trials to improve blood sugar and insulin levels in people with prediabetes or obesity. It works by directly activating an energy-sensing enzyme (AMPK) in the body. While promising, it is not yet a standard first-line treatment.

Why this rating
