High levels of certain sugars (fructose, galactose, mannose, xylose) found in the gut are linked to insulin resistance. This is driven by specific gut bacteria that break down complex carbs into these simple sugars. Managing gut microbiome composition through diet may help reduce these specific metabolites and improve insulin sensitivity.
