Sarcopenia is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular-specific mortality in females, but not in males.
For older women, sarcopenia is a specific warning sign for heart-related death. If you are a woman with low muscle mass and slow walking speed, you should be particularly vigilant about your cardiovascular health, as your risk is significantly higher than men with the same condition.
GoodQualifiesMEDIUM confidence
Sarcopenia associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular-specific mortality among females [HR: 1.61 (95% CI: 1.22–2.12); P = 0.001], but not among males [HR: 1.07 (95% CI: 0.81–1.40; P = .643); Pinteraction = 0.079].
Why this rating
Large cohort with long follow-up, but the interaction p-value (0.079) is borderline significant.
