Higher circulating levels of hippurate and greater gut microbiome diversity (Shannon index) are associated with a reduced risk of developing Metabolic Syndrome (MetS).
Maintaining a diverse gut microbiome, indicated by higher hippurate levels, is associated with a lower risk of metabolic syndrome. This can be supported by a diet rich in fruit, whole grains, and coffee.
