Energy balance
Age-related decline in skeletal muscle mitochondrial ATP production rates (MAPR) is independent of adiposity and insulin sensitivity.
Maintaining a healthy weight is crucial for insulin sensitivity, but it does not prevent age-related declines in mitochondrial function. To support mitochondrial health as you age, consider strategies beyond weight management, such as exercise, which may help mitigate these intrinsic declines.
GoodSupportsHIGH confidence
The results also indicate that an age-related decrease in muscle mitochondrial function is neither related to adiposity nor insulin sensitivity.
Why this rating
Gold standard measurement of mitochondrial function via freshly isolated mitochondria from biopsies.
