Stroke survivors retain the physiological capacity to adapt to aerobic exercise training, resulting in significant improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness (VO2 peak) comparable to healthy sedentary adults.

If you have had a stroke, you can still improve your heart and lung fitness through regular aerobic exercise like walking or cycling. Start with moderate intensity (where you can talk but not sing) for 3-5 days a week. Even small improvements in fitness can significantly help you perform daily activities and reduce fatigue.

The capacity of the stroke population to make cardiorespiratory adaptations to aerobic exercise has been demonstrated in numerous training studies... the magnitude of change in peak VO2 (mean gain of ~12.5%) was comparable to the 10% to 30% improvements (reported for healthy, sedentary adults)
