Long-term consumption of high fructose diets causes non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) by disrupting gut barrier integrity, leading to endotoxin translocation and hepatic inflammation.

Avoid high-fructose corn syrup and sugary beverages. While fruit is healthy, concentrated fructose (especially in drinks) damages the gut lining, allowing toxins to reach the liver and cause inflammation and fat accumulation. Focus on whole foods rather than added sugars.

GoodSupportsHIGH confidence
Chronic intake of fructose is associated with a loss of tight junction proteins in the duodenum, elevated translocation of endotoxin, and induction of toll-like receptors (TLRs) in the liver... This process causes mucosal inflammation and intestinal epithelial barrier disruption, increasing the translocation of microbial products.
