Energy balance

High levels of sedentary behavior, particularly television watching, are integral to family life and serve as a primary barrier to physical activity in low-income immigrant Latino children.

Parents should be encouraged to limit screen time and use TV as an educational tool rather than a babysitter. Interventions should provide alternative, low-cost activities for children, especially when parents are working.
