Women benefit more than men from combined resistance exercise and protein supplementation in terms of relative leg strength improvements (leg press and leg extension), despite men showing greater absolute lean body mass gains.
Women in this study saw greater relative improvements in leg strength from the program than men, even though men gained more absolute muscle mass. Focus on your own progress and functional strength rather than comparing absolute mass to men.

For leg press strength, the interaction effect Treatment × Sex was found to be significant (β = 15.5; 95% CI: 0.6, 30.3)... showing a higher relative change in women compared to men on both outcomes.
Why this rating
RCT with subgroup analysis; interaction effects were significant for relative strength changes.

- A 12-week combined resistance exercise and protein supplementation intervention significantly increases lean body mass in community-dwelling older adults aged 75 and younger, but not in those older than 75.Good
- Older adults with mobility-impairing disorders (frailty, sarcopenia, or osteoarthritis) benefit equally from combined resistance exercise and protein supplementation as those without these disorders in terms of absolute effects.Good
