The gut microbiota and its physiologic interactions with the host can be influenced by internal factors (e.g., genetics and anatomy, among others) and external elements (e.g., diet, exercise, and medications, among others)... Dietary interventions in patients with obesity and microbiota analysis after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass validated that both interventions increased microbiome diversity, resulting in increased microbial utilization of macro- and micronutrients.
