Resistance training does not significantly alter myofibrillar or sarcoplasmic protein concentrations (densities) in either high or low anabolic responders over 12 weeks.
Don't worry about 'protein density' supplements or specific diets to change it. Muscle growth happens by adding structure, not by packing existing structure tighter. Consistent training is sufficient.
ModerateRefutesHIGH confidence
No significant main effects or cluster×time interactions existed for myofibrillar protein concentrations... sarcoplasmic protein concentrations... or myofibrillar: sarcoplasmic protein ratios
Why this rating
Robust statistical analysis showing no change.

- High anabolic responders to resistance training exhibit greater baseline mitochondrial volume (citrate synthase activity) than low responders, suggesting mitochondrial capacity may facilitate muscle hypertrophy.Moderate
- Low anabolic responders to resistance training upregulate myofibrillar myozenin-1 (MYOZ1) protein levels, whereas high responders do not, suggesting MYOZ1 may serve as a biomarker for differential adaptation.Moderate
