Beta-alanine is a more effective precursor than histidine for increasing muscle carnosine content and reducing fatigue during high-intensity exercise.
If your goal is to improve high-intensity exercise performance by increasing muscle carnosine, take beta-alanine (4.8–6.4 g/day) for at least 4 weeks. Taking histidine is less effective for this specific purpose.

However, it has been shown that the rate-limiting precursor of CAR synthesis in humans is beta-alanine and that its chronic supplementation is more effective at increasing the CAR content than HIS [81,88–90].
Why this rating
Cited studies show significant increases in muscle carnosine with beta-alanine.
