Glycogen accumulation allosterically inhibits AMPK activity by binding to its glycogen-binding domain, particularly when glycogen has high branching content.

High muscle glycogen levels can allosterically inhibit AMPK activity, particularly when glycogen has high branching content. This inhibition may help prevent further glycogen synthesis. Balancing glycogen levels is important for metabolic regulation.
