High prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors (hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, smoking, obesity, diabetes) exists in the Greek adult population, with significant gender disparities in prevalence and control rates.
Regular screening for blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar is critical, especially if you are male or have a family history. Lifestyle changes alone are often insufficient; medication adherence is necessary for many to reach safe levels. Do not assume cultural dietary habits protect you from modern risk factors like obesity and smoking.
The prevalence of the common cardiovascular risk factors in our population seems high. As a consequence a considerable proportion of Greek adults are at 'high-risk' for future cardiovascular events.
Why this rating
Large, representative cross-sectional study (n=3042) with rigorous methodology, though observational.
