Energy balance
In individuals with obesity, intentional or observed weight loss reduces the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) and myocardial infarction compared to weight maintenance.
If you have obesity, losing weight significantly lowers your risk of heart attacks and coronary heart disease. While this study noted a potential increase in stroke risk, the strong reduction in heart disease risk suggests that weight reduction is beneficial for cardiovascular health in this population. Focus on sustainable weight loss strategies.
Among individuals with obesity, those in the weight loss group had a much lower risk of CHD [HR =0.66 (0.49-0.89)] and myocardial infarction [HR =0.50 (0.31-0,81)].
Why this rating
Large sample size (n=34,947 obese) and advanced causal inference methods (target trial emulation), but observational design prone to unmeasured confounding (reverse causation).
